Prancing on the Page

I hate the stage
my voice just won't match
I have these words
but the voice just can't catch
the fire's hid behind
sing it for me
 sing it for me

I got a new ax
and all these new tunes
cassette tape, no wax
and I brought balloons
been thinking 'bout adding bassoons
sing it for me
 sing it for me

for my birthday
I want recording space
maybe a gift card
album cover? my face
I'm no artist but I'm willing to starve
if you sing it for me
 sing it for me

my wife looks at me funny
and so does my dog
I'd take a lesson
but the learning seems hard
just to bring out the fire
sing it for me
 sing it for me

it wouldn't matter
except the records would sell
I've written this down
poetry can go to hell
I don't care, I'll dress like a clown
just sing it for me
 sing it for me

they say if I was really a rock star
I'd not have a desk job
lunch comes from a jam jar
make it myself, learned from ma'
If I could sing, oh, I'd be a star!
sing it for me
 sing it for me
