Of Fallen Heroes

Guns, guns, guns.
How they kill our daughters and our sons.
How they break the silence of the night
Bullets flying left, and flying right.
Run for cover if you can,
But the bullets find their man.
Shattered hopes and shattered dreams,
Gushing blood in crimson streams,
Perfect bodies smashed and broken
Words that have not yet been spoken.
Hear the doleful, whining bagpipes,
Coffins draped with stars and stripes,
Then the toll of a church's bell
As we bid them all farewell

Barbara Cadogan

I am a Registered Nurse, and first started to write poetry when I was about 18 years old. I have written several poems on a variety of subjects, and enjoy poems that are light and filled with humor. I feel that a good poem like a painting, is able to evoke a variety of emotions, whether sad or cheerful, angry or sympathetic. My goal in life is to learn as much as I can, and to spread peace and good cheer to many. Above all, to be respectful and helpful to my fellow man. more…
