Love Lost

Standing in the wild grass, greeting her sweetly on arrival
over her shoulder he glared, the malevolent appraisal of a rival

His practiced fingers ran thru her hair while he glorified its merit
stealing all her heartstrings from me with the skill of a thieving ferret

He was, long on lies and short on truth, but this I did not say
I could not bring her sorrow when such joy she then displayed

Her vision was clouded, from his clear blue eyes
time will show that in short grass, snakes have brief lives

He created a fantasy world that the two of them now own
and even when I'm with them, I find that I'm alone

I'm sure that in this somewhere, there's a moral to be met
although I have my character, I will still have some regret

True love is a fleet winged bird....
so very difficult to get....
for some failure will be assured....
having never brought their net.
