Love is Like the Sea

I am lying here,
dead, but only half so,
no hope, love, or faith
left in this wraith of a body.
The sand is sucking me down
as the white crown of the ocean
spreads devotion over this
cynical skin of mine.
I find that, after that, I can stand,
using my callused hands to push
against the cushy oblivion that seeks
the meek fingers I have.
But then, as luck dictates,
the sates of the sea have no end
and depend upon the person they pursue
in doing the fatal work they intend.
So, yet another wave crashes here
and tears wash from my sore eyes,
but cries of fears reach these ears
and tell me of the dear life I left behind.
