Survival
Death has seized him,
and his dainty wife must stare
upon his frozen, saintly shape
and decide whether she can care
for him with Death, for two long years.
Her tears do nothing for his condition,
and she waits for recognition to show
though the features of his face
are not laced with love anymore.
The wife’s sore heart is bruised,
but still starts when past murmurs
delude the color in her mind
and find that she is so easily unraveled.
Death promises to release he who sleeps
but it is the person who keeps his life
who must awaken him back from the deeps.
