Lingering Light

Smug in its inevitability,
evening anticipates day's demise.
And as scattered shards of gray gather,
blue finds sanctuary in your eyes.

Crimson flames melting a liquid sky,
Sol's scarlet orb reluctantly sinks.
And dusk absorbs its last molten rays,
etching the landscape in diluted inks.

Vermilion edges the horizon,
and magic seems to be everywhere.
Twilight excites flickering fireflies,
causing lights to appear in the air.

Within the fabric of time and space,
stars confetti an ebony night.
And black descends like a shroud of smoke,
extinguishing all lingering light.

A quicksilver moon pools in the dark,
gilding the waters of a wishing well.
And as silence mutes the beat of our hearts,
we're held captive within its spell.

Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing. more…
