gone but not forgotten

i remember the moment they knocked on my door
they told me you wouldn't be home anymore
i told them thats silly i'm cooking your tea
the news they were giving was not meant for me
they took me to see you i sat on a chair
i kissed your cold lips and stroked your soft hair
how could i leave you in a place cold as ice
so white and so sterile and not very nice
they led me away and i made my way home
how could you leave me to face life alone
i went to our bedroom and lay on the bed
and cuddled the pillow that once held your head
how could i think theres no us anymore
with your book lying open at page twenty four
only this morning i kissed you goodbye
i brushed down your jacket and straightened your tie
we made plans to meet up and visit the shops
for dinner you fancied a couple of chops
the table lays waiting to seat us for two
the meat in the kitchen lies waiting for you
i loved you so much your the boy i adore
how come the angels needed you more
they said it was quick that you wouldn't have known
i hope they were gentle taking you home
i pick up our photo taken in spain
now splattered with tears falling like rain
there are so many angels up in the sky
but you were so special and to young to die
oh god up in heaven how can it be
youv'e taken the angel belonging to me
give him the kiss with the feathery touch
hold him and tell him i miss him so much
don't let him be lonely he'd hate that you know
theres someone down here who is needing him so
his short life was over before it began
he'd only just changed from a boy to a man
god bless my darling enjoy your sweet sleep
forgive me the tears that i have to weep
thank you for showing me love while you could
i'll love you forever and i'm being good
sometimes i wake in the dead of the night
i swear its your arms that are holding me tight
in that sweet moment i'm freed from all pain
knowing one day i will see you again
we'll hold hands by the river where still waters flow
surrounded by love wherever we go
we'll never be parted together we'll roam
you'll be there waiting to carry me home
