Fair Warning

If I had had fair warning of the empty creed
I would have ditched the morning and switched the bogus breed.

If I had had fair warning of the astral chart
I would have bumped the morning and dumped the tacky tart.

If I had had fair warning of the market mood
I would have zapped the morning and capped the crazy crude.

If I had had fair warning of the closing gate
I would have scratched the morning and snatched the fancy fate.

If I had had fair warning of the obscene scene
I would have flushed the morning and hushed the silver screen.

If I had had fair warning of the killing field
I would have skipped the morning and gripped the shelter shield.

If I had had fair warning of the failing goal
I would have clogged the morning and dogged the sorry soul.

If I had had fair warning of the looming doom
I would have stiffed the morning and sniffed the bluebell bloom.
