Drosophila
Drosophila are mere fruit flies just three millimeters long.
They gather around spoiling plants
while probing with a prong.
Drosophila are the models important in human health.
Their organisms are researched
yielding scientific wealth.
Drosophila are used to study genetic heredity.
All their chromatin DNA
has been sequenced adeptly.
Drosophila have life cycles completed within two weeks.
Defective genes and mutations
observed with microtechniques.
Drosophila have the structures of polytene chromosomes:
embryonic development
of eye, leg and wing genomes.
Drosophila serve as reference for cloning or gene repair.
Much of human biology
can with this fruit fly compare.
