Devotion (Revised)

A spirit of the devil stepped in the church,
taking the giant, stained glass Virgen Mary
and shattering her, hoping to end mankind’s search
in the countless pieces that ten men could not carry.
A boy, an apprentice, took up all the parts
and set to restore the window to its former wonder,
but he did not expect the project to fix the people’s hearts
or to rob him of years and lead his life to thunder.
Stolen days aided the repair of the woman,
as he snuck away to spend time with a broken creation,
full grown, he was an expert workman,
though he held strong to the church’s spiritual elation.
Then, at last, the pieces were placed, and the girl came alive
telling him the secret to life but soon departing as she did arrive.
