In The Midst Yet Apart
Donald James Kirby Von Koehler 1965 (Burien)
In the midst yet apart
The moments I used to cherish seem to be fading into the past,
I've spent my life searching for the one love that would last.
Up till now romance has been so distant, so far out of reach,
yet I keep my sights on a destiny where life's a heavenly beach.
Too many times have I wandered in and out of societys' trends,
I never got close enough to call anyone my real friends.
Playing the rebellious loner facing the hard life on my own,
Yet realizing deep inside how far from people I had grown.
In the midst yet apart-from everyone that may have tried to get close,
I was too untrusting and didn't believe in sincerity when it arose.
In the midst yet apart-I can be surrounded by many yet still feel alone,
believing no one could understand what I felt or the pain I'd known.
I'd joke away the hours not willing to be serious enough to share the truth,
behind each laugh was a memory of the darkness I had known in my youth.
I realize not everyone has the humor to laugh at adversity and circumstance,
yet somehow it's been my wall so solid never letting down the guard to chance.
In the midst yet apart-my heart was hardened to the thing they call love,
My eyes were too blurred to visualize the dream of a heaven above.
In the midst yet apart-feeling like I was miles behind what everyone knew,
yet somehow I kept thinking to myself the future is all up to you.
