Wrong Shoes

Well, I must have been wearing the wrong shoes.
They took me where I didn't want to go.
A poor excuse, you tell me — yes, I know.
Most humans have the wherewithal to choose
A general direction in which to head,
But those shoes took me somewhere else instead.
They sent me  round in circles, most of which
Led to nowhere, and left me with the blues.
I wound up poor when I could have been rich.
My own fault, you say? No — it was those shoes!
