REFUGE CITY

REFUGE CITY

I wearily come Your gate
As the sun has slowly set
Oh Lord, I can't dare hesitate
For the Avenger tracks me yet

Oh Lord, I cry out my guilt!
I've shattered my house of pride
My sin crushed all I've built
I've lost all, let me come inside

I know I don't deserve Your Grace
I've done nothing to receive Your pity
But Lord let me see Your face
Let me in to Refuge City

When I fell I lay in the grime and mud
As my sin triumphant at my misery
I listened and heard the Avenger of Blood
As he shifted the ruins searching for me

So I fled, I ran as the sun began to rise
My guilt propelled me to seek your face
I'm guilty, Lord I confess, as the Avenger cries
But I'm here in Kedesh, a holy place

That night I walked the walls
And there the Avenger I finally saw
Through the night I heard the calls
Of my guilt shouted by the Law

I ran, Lord right to Your mighty arms
My head lay on Your Shechem, strong shoulder
As I wept you Forgave me all the harms
I caused when lived in Sin's order

I sat as you told me of Your great love
Wept as I saw the scars You yet bare
Lord I see what your Grace is made of
In Hebron, Your fellowship we all Share

We watched as others sought refugee
The Avenger of Blood Chased each one
You welcomed each, as You welcomed me
Resting here in the Light of the Son

And the winds rise, and the Avenger howls
To You Lord we turn and seek Your face
Your are our fortress, our home, our house
Lord Jesus you're our Beezer, hiding place

So often I remember how I fell,
Thought I fell so very long far
Yet your Tower of Refuge I see well
How very Great You truly are

You, our Savior are our Ramoth, High place
We rest on the promise of Your Word
We praise You for the gift of Your Grace
And shout of Your refuge till all have heard

And from this height, you bless us still
We are redeemed, free and secure
Thank you Lord, for working Your will
Here in Golan, a Holy enclosure

Lord thank You for Your Loving Grace
For Your mercy, for taking pity
For gathering us to you in this place
Here in our own Refuge City
Amen

About this poem

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. HEBREWS 6 17-20
