Broken Wings

Weathered wings, beaten, and tattered.
Hopes and dreams, all but shattered.

Full of grace and beauty, flying high.
Resilient warrior, is the butterfly.

Her will does not wither, nor does it fade.
For her wings are strong, although frayed.

Scars of battle, are all that is shown.
Soaring high, upon winds blown.

For all the happiness that she brings,
Falls upon on her broken wings.

About this poem

I was taking photographs of butterflies in a field near my parent's home one day. I came across an older one whose wings were broken and frayed but she was still flying around from one flower to the next. I felt inspired because she didn't let her broken wings defeat her. She was broken but still beautiful. We always want to seek perfection when the beauty is right in front of us.
