If only I Could Smile Again
IF ONLY I COULD SMILE AGAIN
Once upon a time...
You know what? Its not story time
Hit me some notes while I shed tears to share this piece
It was November, the last month for autumn
Flowers dried, leaves fallen apart
But the beauty of it as they lay beneath the branches and on the roots
When one could even drool watching the sun set
I , the legend of tomorrow was born
It was tears on my first touch
As the nurse pulled me out
As I crouched happily on seeing my first light
The relief and sigh given by my lovely mother
That yes, her valentine effect had finally taken place
Sawubona, Karibu muy buena
The joy the old men shared , literally because I was just 8 days old
As they danced, wriggled and twine their waists
My mother had won a great battle and had birthed a humble king
She was clothed in white beautifully made from wool
Wool? Probably because winter was some days away
She did a glory dance, feasted with her brothers and friends
I wonder, if anyone has had their names shipped overseas
Well, that was me, my name went across borders, flights , I’m sure there were transits
Probably why I aspire to be in the airforce someday
My first step with no support was a delight
Smiles every where, my dearest mother will pat my back after giving me my favourite meal, breast milk
I had made friends when I was two
My next door neighbours and friends from school joined me to cut the cake
My baby teeth too had increased in number and I could slang and properly articulate words
My enthusiasm in the British language marvelled everyone
I have found so much joy in the environs
Beautiful people, light hearted, we thought alike and our one goal, being there for each other and putting up smiles on each others faces
We spent nights together as young people growing up
We shared the horror, consoled each other , swung together , rode the roller coaster together
Well, like giant bonds , we were stuck together.
We reflect today, looking at the picture album, beautiful memories because life had given us different paths .
But the smiles never fade
in our heads , we exclaim, “I miss you”
Hold on, that was too quick, lets rewind
Something is missing, right?
What’s the loophole ? No loophole, just a gen Z.
We enjoyed the breeze, held hands while trekked home from school
The bids of farewell and smiles on the next day upon seeing each other
All when we were young; just yesterday
It used to be beautiful
The photographs bring tears in our eyes because the stories have changed
Now everything is over thé internet ; And we are strangers
No synchrony in our hear beats
There’s no physical touch
The feelings are different
Love is an ache , Joy is short lived ; truth hides in the horizon of our hearts
The globe is four squared with lonely corners
Everything hangs on a blue moon; a satellite
Eventhough they say the satellite has made our world a small one and we’re connected
But we’re a far apart because of different parts and we tend to forget each other because of numerous career paths
It’s beautiful ; but where’s the hello when you need them
We sit aloof , fully engaged with devices until there are sudden demises
If only we could hold hands like we used to
If only we could smile once again
