The Great Consummation
Suspense suddenly saturates the air,
As a sea of spotless white robed saints,
Huddle with hands pressed over mouth,
Silently giggling with heavenly anticipation,
Scared to look full face at each other,
As if to somehow spoil the surprise.
Slowly sneaking tippy toe,
Peeking over the edge of Eternity,
Standing breathless blurry eyed,
Suspended in both space and time,
Awaiting, Awaiting,
The Great Consummation of Christ.
Oh, heavenly Trump of God,
Pressed against obedient lips,
Breath of life slowly drawn deep within,
Releasing the golden glorious sound of Victory,
Piercing, Penetrating, Powerful -
Loud enough as if to wake the dead!
Exploding clouds of earthen dirt erupt,
Sanctified sound of scattered dust unites,
Corruption confronts Incorruption,
Mortality meets Immortality,
The finite faces the infinite,
As countless soulless bodies emerge through the dusty haze.
Body to body, soul to soul, spirit to spirit,
As these who remain are suddenly transformed,
Immediately ascending with arms outstretched,
Startled surprised voices shout the sounds of praise,
Soul and spirit are completely sanctified from the flesh,
As Death is swallowed up in Victory!
About this poem
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 more »
