The Under Rower

Broken rays of sunshine find their way through the
cracks of wood overhead as my thoughts transcend the deck, the sails, the sea, and the horizon.

As I go through the motions of service I purposely set my mind to practice His Presence.

I am the under rower.

My name is not relevant.

My thoughts are not needed.

My dreams and plans are not considered.

My purpose is to simply row the oar.

When I am lonely, I just row the oar.

When it is painful, I just row the oar.

When it is difficult, I just row the oar.

When it is depressing, I just row the oar.

When it is overwhelming, I just row the oar.

When the sea is calm, I just row the oar.

When the sea is rough, I just row the oar.

When I am exhausted, I just row the oar.

When I am sick, I just row the oar.

When I am happy, I just row the oar.

I must not make the fatal mistake of thinking that I am the Captain of the ship of Life.

I cannot make the fatal mistake of thinking that I navigate the ship of Life.

For I am a galley slave – my calling, my privilege, my honor for the Master is to just row the oar.

Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. 1Corinthians 4:1-2
