and long does the rain fall

A bright light flashes across the sky
Nearly dissipating before a sharp rumble booms through the sky
Darkness echo’s once again yet the sound still rumbles on

Lost from sight are the raindrops falling
Only to fall upon the earth and join the stream
Not to see the drop fall through the cracks
Gone from sight and shielded from light

Deafening thunder rumbles yet light unseen
Often times a drop would draw near the crack
Eventually to be driven off course
Sliding further down the ravine drying from no contact

Time ravages the drop and mud swirls within
Hazing the fine sheen and leaving streaks
Even pebbles would mix within the raindrop

Ripples from up above are the only sounds yet they leave a mark
A channel appears yet always does the clear drops divert
Instead of joining the other raindrop
Now the thunder reaches towards it shaking the ground

Fast do all the rain drops dry as the sun shines on them
All but the dirtiest one that was unfortunate
Long will that poor muddied raindrop survive
Let the ones who take the easy course go where they may
