Tomorrow

If I were tomorrow-
I'd be a happy day,
A smiling face on everyone
as people go on there way,
If I were tomorrow-
I'd be better than the day before,
Hopeful hearts with love & joy
and no one keeping score,
If I were tomorrow-
everyday should be like me,
not holding on to negative
& no signs of misery,
If I were tomorrow-
there'd be no one left behind,
If you were tomorrow too-
then it would yours and mine.

What a beautiful and happy poem about future's prospects. To be sure, from a literary standpoint, this poem will never win awards, but it is touching, hopeful and brilliantly scored by its simplicity. Until the last two lines. Those lines, while insightful and artfully crafted, are kind of out of place with the rest of the work. Where your poem is light-hearted and conveys an almost child-like innocence, the last two lines bring in a more mature theme that conflicts with the rest of it. But, let's be honest, given that is the only negative critique I have about this work, one is forced to admit it is very well done.
