The knock on my door.

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The knock on my door.

I know there won't be a knock upon my door. You're in love; I can't see you anymore. But I won't go down with the ship; I won't hurt myself or surrender. I'm still in love and always will be. She may have gold hair and rosey cheeks. But I won't let you go. There is a dove above my head, and while I remain in love, she can't give you everything you need in the same way that I can. You will see, and I will sit on your steps. I'm still in love, and I won't surrender. Maybe I can't compete, but I will never retreat. I'm in love, and I'm not complete.

One suggestion for improvement could be to consider playing with the structure of the poem a bit more. Maybe experiment with different line breaks or stanzas to enhance the flow of the piece and create even more impact.
