Redshirt

As Bob stood outside the Enterprise,
waiting to be beamed aboard “Energise!”
finally leaving the academy in his new shirt
neatly pressed and with not a spec of dirt
Bob can now explore beyond his skies

Bob kept his shirt spotless per tradition
and wrote in his journal of every mission
from the smallest menial tasks to
beaming down with the landing crew
sometimes in dangerous conditions

After all Starfleet was at war
and it was not long before
enemy fire was killing no one of note
only one or two in a crimson coat
that’s ok it’s what Bob trained for

The explosion in the bulkhead
should have left no dead
but all of his training aside
it was inevitable that he died
after all Bobs shirt was red
