I Have Questions

I have questions,
Concerning joy and sadness, gloom or gladness,
As regards grief,
And why, one day, we all must take our share of what it gives.
Concerning the warmth birthed from the arrival of a new born,
Or the agony conceived from the news of a loved one gone,
Regarding new life, regarding death,
For one, a first cry, for the other, a last breath.

I have questions,
About injustice and prejudice,
If bias attacks a system, who can rescue this?
In every corner, a tinge of unfairness could lie,
A slant, often injected into what the laws imply,
Are we not all guilty, or would we all deny?
That now and again, we stare at situations with a jaundiced eye.
It's probably an unconscious judgment defect,
Our perceptions are often swayed by halo or horn effects.

I have questions,
About pent up emotions that could cause a volcano,
The exact time of explosion, who can know?
Regarding anger, concerning strife,
An eye for an eye, a life for a life.

I have questions,
About wise counsel and when it is needed,
Regarding advice given, will it be heeded?
I recall an advice an old proverb once passed,
'Neither give salt or counsel until you are being asked.'

I have questions,
About acoustics, the science of sound,
Can communication be possible without signs and sound?
The rippling of water, the splash of the ocean,
The howling of the wind; soughs from air in motion,
The goat's bleat, the frog's croak, the turkey's gobble,
What amuses the hyenas and hens? Why do they laugh and chuckle?

I have questions,
Concerning powers that be,
What rules the flowers and bees?
What happens at night by quarter past three?
Are there sounds louder than we?
Or creatures in trees who hanker to crack free?
Permit me, at times, fiction can be.

I have questions,
About each of life's facets,
Concerning the truth, can we face it?
Where is our destination? Can we trace it?
How many light years would we go further from the edge?
Is there a limit to which the universe can stretch?
They say life is a journey; to where? I do not know.
We met these things, we just follow.
