"Impending Doom"

This sense of impending doom -
Certainly I'm not the only one who can feel it?
Out of everything going on in the world,
There's a lot. It's a lot.
The masses would rather ignore it all.

Prevent change, prevent hope?
What's the point with your issue?
Preference of no change and keeping the system,
While selling out your neighbors and acting like you're an angel.

You're no saint, if you sell out;
You are not a "good person"
Good people don't sell each other out, period.
Compromising your morals,
For a system that does not care about you.

Society has gone AWOL from insanity;
As several genocides unfurl through the world -
Climate change also rumbles through the Earth -
I watch through my exasperated eyes,
Slowly self-destructing crumbling societies.

I find the masses ignoring everything flabbergasting;
Sheep led to the slaughter,
Brainwashed by propaganda.

About this poem

This poem is highly political, and highlights society and it's sick problems. The masses ignoring everything going around them working around like clockwork; just moving about on their day while the Earth bleeds and people suffer. Keep turning your head away from these problems... It's really going to bite us in the butt one of these days.

Destiny Hanson

Hi! I actually go by a completely different name than my birth name but it's fine; I'm a disabled, nonbinary and queer af person who specialized in free verse poetry. It seems as though I've been writing in free verse my whole life without knowing until more recently, and that's the annoying part. I live in a group home, planning on going to college to learn more poetic forms on top of my free verse and words so I can get better at my proses and poetry. I LOVE Pokemon, I LOVE video games, i LOVE rock music and I absolutely love a lot of different things. I go under the name of "The Spiteful Poet" on Twitter and Facebook - because I have a lot of fire and am incredibly spiteful towards existence currently, and "Felix Wise" for my chosen name as a nonbinary person. Please respect my chosen name - there's a special meaning behind why I chose my name, and a story. I also go under the pen name of "Hydri", for reasons I will not specify to anyone unless the time comes to it, as someone with an esoteric nature. I run Actually Autistic Voices and The Neurodivergent Outlaw on Facebook, pages I created myself but I'm struggling keeping up with all of my social media activities, especially trying to shift into other things than social media even though I write poetry with a keyboard, not pencil and pen. I am a philosopher and I run information influx - an overload of information, my philosophy is esotericism. If you ever have any questions please let me know, I'm happy to educate on anything if my memory permits! more…
