Workplace (The monster)

Karin Boehme 1978 (Groblersdal)

It swallows hours
without tasting
It stomps on hope
without looking
It walks past me
without acknowledging
It looks at sentimentality
begrudgingly
like an old enemy
I enter past its dark wings
every morning
not knowing when and
if I will exit
I perform for its entertainment
bending the knee
after every new trick it demands
out of the box
in the box
around the box
I am a number to it
A number in its
dark show
It throws paper at me
to show I pleased it
I am a number
it doesn’t know me
I don’t know me
Anymore
