The Science Exists

Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)

January 24

The novelty has since worn off
What fickle, frail, and aimless feats
of distillated, senseless beats
have been evincing all ken doffed

If circumstance could grant the lease
of exemplary faculties
in lieu of glial casualties
there’s affordance for masterpiece

Begin again or never quit
As endless possibilities
will multiply unknown degrees
to infinite, astounding wit

To tinker with the telomeres,
nucleus tractus solitarius,
ever this is common practice
–ceasing measurements by the years:
A quasi-equilibrium status

Outlasting stars and all the gods;
Rewriting human intercourse
Those that would, verily endorse
essentially trumping the odds

Can it be still artificial
the resurgence of intellect,
vigor, or otherwise delect
–even if it’s unofficial

Once unfamiliarity
The customary stands aside
when anti-aging’s to abide
henceforth without hilarity

About this poem

Controversial or not, one day our vitality could be at a level approaching invincibility (never again to suffer physical breakdown or experience mental decline) and this may even be commonplace in our lifetimes. Emerging discoveries, ongoing research and study in the fields of epigenetics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and proteomics are trending towards incredible breakthroughs as they pertain to bodily rejuvenation and reimagining our physiology. However, these days, it seems there is always sinister perpetrating tied in with these pursuits.

Jeffrey Powell

A bit of an introvert, Jeffrey enjoys arranging words and dabbling in poetic forms as an outlet for expressing his thoughts, feelings, and observations. He tends to play by his own rules and darts in and out of the civilized world, as avoiding the conventional gathering is more his style. Jeffrey lives with his fraternal twin whom he enjoys sharing a laugh with at the opportune time. more…
