Worthy Pursuit

Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)

Should we seek fame and fortune
and lead mesmerizing lives,
all at once, all too often,
the fool's errand arrives.

Why yes, seems we're better served
finding our own heartbeat song,
with the same effort incurred,
we find where we belong.

About this poem

I don't know where this came from but it seems truthful and valid.

Jeffrey Powell

Love those poems that come out of nowhere and turn out to be gold … this poem is gold! We all want to be wealthy, but wealth hardly guarantees happiness.

Heartbeat song (which I interpret as the thing that truly makes us happy, and the thing that contributes the best to our authentic selves) is were our deepest and most meaningful lives will be found.

I love, love didactic poetry, and this one is a perfect of it!

I know, it’s so simple yet rings true. I remember waking up back in February and this just popped in my head. So cool! This is motivating me to go and check out some of my older stuff to get the creative juices flowing some more.
As always, my gratitude to you, John
