Uncharmed

Sarah Brower 1995 (New Jersey)

Do not say
 I am beautiful
nor shed flatteries
upon conniving lips
make no comment
 of shimmery eyes
I do not desire tickled ears

Do not say
 I am beautiful
do not love me by sight
love me by mind
 by deed
speak as one blind

Do not beguile
in false pretenses
make no mistake
I own two feet to stand on
if you call me beautiful
 I will laugh
I will say
don’t fall for what is fleeting

I will say
 you shall fail
in your conquest
shallow
lacking substance
if you say I am beautiful
you will never know
how beautiful I truly am

I love to express myself through poetry. I can’t force inspiration so I only write when I feel moved. Authenticity is important to me!! If I can make anyone feel heard and understood, Then my goal is accomplished. more…
