Black Leaf

Black Leaf

Roadside

Etched in Diesel
darker than
   the thoughts of
         weasel

  hasten
   your
   destined
    failure
  a slicker
   existence
is never more
    pitch.

if witches
   grew
  gardens
  whose roots
   tapped
    the shoulders
   of dormant
      giants

  the impurity
    of
  all humanity
   could
   quench
   their thirst
   of so absorbed
          I am

About this poem

Written while hitchhiking in Squamish B.C. during Winter. I spotted on the ground something I had never seen before; a black leaf. I pulled out my journal and wrote this poem.
