The Drive

The Drive

She reminded of The Drive
Not Vancouver’s Commercial,
but the one to stay alive
That of poetic license
That means more than making money
or renewing my class 5
And therefore all the wherefores
played with
some standard romance jive

Something about her cornered poise
after a date on Thursday night
offered up my chance to ask
her out some other hopeless night

We drove and talked of better days,
and the way it was back then
what sitting at a bar would do
for phone numbers and a pen

She refined the place I sleep in
and of this I made the point
that yesterday strove for more
than tattoos or a legal joint

yet maybe there’s the chance she’ll see
these words in hand some sunlit day

and if she wants for anything
she has what she needs today

to call me for a pick up,
a dinner and a play
