Betrayed by The Light

I need not light to see
That choosing to be good
Is riddled in hypocrisy
As their weakness becomes mine

It is hard to rise above;
Their sloth is overwhelming
Many deserve death
Yet I am forced to walk among them

Humanity is weakness
And I grow more human every day
To choose to be good is moronic
Maybe tomorrow I’ll choose not to obey

I feel like I have been poisoned
And this time it was the light that was the villain
What a sadistic twist of fate to give me love and hope
Only to turn my love and hope into a pit of utter distain

About this poem

I wrote this when I was feeling pretty down and angry at the world and to people in general. Though it is kind of sad to read it now that I am feeling better about myself. I think it's important to share, as letting myself rage about let the negativity leave my body for a short time. I wrote this when I felt like everyone around me lies and cheats and gets ahead through live with no consequences. I was in a pretty dark place. I still feel like this poem flows somewhat nicely; except towards the end. Endings are hard to write!

I write poetry and it is often terrible. The poetry I wrote previously was so terrible I decided to take a ten year break. However, it seems the decade I decided to do everything but write poetry has seemingly increased my ability to write half-decent poetry. Life is weird. more…
