The Blade

Gisela Vigil 1959 (Cuba)

Rhymed
You’d think after years in the making,
the fury would somehow then fade.
But anger’s a potent emotion
that cuts like a double-edge blade.

You’ve tried grasping it with precision,
so as you hold on you won’t bleed.
No matter the tactic you’re using,
Internal is damage you feed.

Unwillingly, you become owner
of wrath you no longer can tame.
The bitterness felt for another
is self-injury now that you claim.

It’s wise not to hang on to fury.
Its shadow will never quite fade.
For anger’s a potent emotion
that cuts like a double-edge blade.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life.
