In Loving Memory Of Mom

I wish I could pen all the memories I have of you
There were so many fun times, not many blue
You gave easily of yourself so we would benefit
Never did you think to hide something for the sin-of-it.

Valuable were your lessons, of loyalty & care
Treat each person and don’t you ever dare
To lie, cheat, or steal, or one day you’ll pay dear
For punishment, those deeds are quite severe

Live life to the fullest and be always grateful
For things that you’re given, never be hateful
In good times and bad, give thanks up above
And hold your head high, don’t push or shove.

Good things come to great people who are honest and true
Let everyone who knows you, see goodness in you
For you carry our name, a legacy that is pure
An honor it is of that you can be sure.

But our family name is not all we represent in life
We are called to be different no matter the strife
For our title is follower, sharer of faith for sure
We have a lifetime of learning so, just endure.

So, endure we must as we learn to heed and trust
For His mercy is sure, His patience is just
We all make errors; you said own up to my wrong
Forgiveness will come when truth is our song.

You taught me how to grow up, how to be man
You wished for me to come home often, soon as I can
But little did it happen for I moved far, far away
Little did I know, you’d pass after my last stay.

Now, I mourn and weep for my greatest friend ever
To reach out and touch you, I cannot, no, never
Until the day I pay another visit to your new home
That’ll be the day, I’ll never more venture or roam.

Then, you can show me around the beautiful gem city
The crystal sea, the golden roads, I’m already giddy
No, not for the things we shall see, but to see you
And the greatest in that city, is a sight to behold too.

Our eternity where good things abide; we are at rest
He’s victor over all, He’s always the best
To allow us to reunite in soul, body, and spirit
We will live in light; there’s nothing to fear it.

About this poem

I wrote this poem out of grief and pain of losing my mother four days after my 46th birthday. I live in China, working to educate students, and my great teacher, mom, passed away in the USA.

My mom was my best friend. She passed away about ten years ago and this poem took me to a special place in my heart.
