Not Okey
In a land where sorrows dwell,
Hearts lament, stories tell,
Somalia's name, scars untold,
Echoes pain, stories unfold.
Recall brings back the aching cry,
Mothers weep, tears defy,
Children starve, innocence lost,
Heroes fall, freedom's cost.
Rich thrive, the poor they sway,
Leaders feast, while hope fades away,
Youth lost in life's tangled maze,
Dreams crushed in the swirling craze.
Hodan Nalayeh, a radiant beam,
Preached for peace, a hopeful dream,
Elman's kin, aiming to mend,
Teaching unity, wounds to tend.
Yet cruelty struck in cruellest way,
Their voices hushed, in the fray,
"Not okay," the sorrow seeps,
Losing those who dared to leap.
I dwell where peace finds its place,
Comfort embraced, a different space,
But thoughts take flight, soar and roam,
Back to Somalia, aching home.
Seeing smiles on young faces there,
Hoping for change, a fervent prayer,
But hope fades in discord's sound,
Chaos whispers, trembling ground.
Each time progress dares to shine,
Tragedy strikes, dims hope's line,
"Not okay," my heart does cry,
Can't turn away, can't deny.
Within, a battle, this inner fight,
To forget or stay, to set things right,
Somalia, my heart won't bend,
To witness pain, I can't pretend.
It's not okay, this pain I see,
The wounds that linger, refuse to flee,
Yet in the shadows, a spark ignites,
A yearning for change, beyond the heights.
In whispers and cries, strength abounds,
To strive, to heal, where hope resounds,
For 'not okay' sparks the will,
To mend, to change, to stand, be still.
May Somalia's tale find a new course,
Embrace peace, let wounds find remorse,
In the struggle, in voices strong,
Hope for change, however long.
