Expansional Contraction

My name is Genghis.
I was in Mongolia
With a kingdom that didn’t measure up to my expectations
To fulfill my desire
to widen my empire
to the entire globe
I rammed through
and conquered the space
and time
With  intuition, maps
and brutal force
I made mistakes and learned lessons
And engraved them for posterity
And for eternity
Then buried my escapades
In the land I made barren in Asia
along with my history
And salt
Ensuring that nothing else crops up in that condemned space
to kindle that fire again
When the men decide to return
and try to recreate
the path of my desolation.

About this poem

Invasion and occupation appear different from a distance but to those inflicting the damage, justification and retrospect may not be remedial.
