Not One Word About You

At times, I can mass produce poems faster than machinery in a production line. A feeling felt, an intriguing question, a simple thought will generate the prancing of words in my head, each pushing and shoving each other to be the first to be splattered on a page. It could be midnight or morning. The production line never stops. But for 2 years and counting,
I’ve been unable to write down a single word about You. Not one.
You, the prince that came in to my life riding upon a white horse and swept me off my feet. Not one word about the special times, your silly antics to make me laugh, or walks to gaze up at a glorious full moon. The first gift I made for you was a little box filled with shiny heart sequins sprinkled upon iridescent white glitter, mixed in with some personalized trinkets. I stenciled the word MAGIC on the top cover with gold glitter so that you’d never forget the feeling. Yes, we were magic for many years. Why can’t I write at least one word about it now?
Perhaps some day, words again will begin filling my head and I’ll write our story. Our sweet beginning. Our surprise ending. It may read like a story of snowflakes melting in the rain, or of a rainbow seen on the horizon which can be painted but never reached. For now, the best I can do is just splatter these words upon a page with no magic, no rhythm or rhyme. But at last, I can say I was able to write one word about You.

About this poem

Just thoughts splattering on a page about how the reality of a heartbreak takes a slow road to recovery.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…
