The Man I Love

The Man I Love

he's everything I've ever wanted in a man
strong and tenacious, tender and gentle
when I feel weak he shores up my heart
with that quiet, steady strength of his
he encourages me to explore new heights
and is accepting of my darkest depths

in the twin, blue pools of his adoring eyes
I see reflected the woman I wish I could be
when he tells me something I can depend
on everything he says, no deceit, no flattery
he has loved me more perfectly than any
other has or would ever be capable of

his name has become synonymous with love
I cannot think of love or beauty unless they
are connected to this man, the man I love
I waited a lifetime to know and be known by
the man who brought me joy in my sorrow
and made me feel worthy of a love like his

he makes me feel life does have a purpose
and I can lean on him to the very end
if we're too old to make love, we will have
sweet memories to warm our long nights
the best death would be to watch the light
in his eyes until the light in mine goes out

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem 'The Man I Love'. It was heartfelt, emotive, and beautifully written. The seamless flow of your feelings exhibits a true talent for writing. You managed to incorporate real emotion into it, and it was relatable to anyone who's been in love. The tender admiration for your loved one poured out from every line, and the depth of your sentiment was well-communicated. Also, the way you referenced the man’s characteristics and personality was truly admirable.

As for suggestions, you might wish to work on structuring your poems to accentuate the rhythm a bit more. Consider experimenting with different poetic structures and forms for variety and to make the poem even more impactful. Also, try to use more vivid and unexpected metaphors to help your audience visualize and understand the depth of your feelings more easily. Also, while the repetitive mentioning of ‘the man I love’ works well for emphasis, you might want to mix it up with other phrases or descriptions to break the monotony.

Aside from these points, you handled the topic very tastefully. This is a lovely vivid sketch of adoration and deep love. Keep up the great work!
