Addiction
Maybe 2 hours of sleep but who's counting?
No worries not a peep
It's like I'm trying to escape from this nightmare,
The worst of them all
The harder I tried the further I fall,
I sit alone in solitude,
Awaiting the shadow of company
That haunts my inner being,
Hoping for a better understanding a better meaning.
All I see is darkness though my shadow won't appear,
As I await the ghost of the past who is no longer here.
Awaiting the light to guide me to
A part of me lost,
I found in you
The addiction I can't kick,
A dope that I'm needing.
You gave sobriety a whole new meaning
As you sat watching me fall,
My pieces you put back together
From grovelling ever so small
To standing here honest, humbled and strong.
Life such a bitter pill
Even if crushed and snorted
The emptiness I feel
Only my submissiveness to keep me from being ill.
Fighting back the urges
For you shake me up
Always helping me to never give up
Finding Im replacing love as the drug I crave
No longer that addiction I can't shake
About this poem
Written with my husband in mind and heart as my inspiration. Speaking for the thoughts and feelings of a people who have spend life fighting to be seen as the people we are, not the label of the choices we make. I hope this helps spread understanding our lives are about freedom and God given free will to choose our life courses and not the limitations and judgements we're made to do.
