Lost Mind
I look at my grandmother, who’s my hero, and the greatest woman I’ve ever known,
As I look into her beautiful eyes, I wonder to myself where did the time go?
Eighty-six years of life stares back at me with very few words said,
She doesn’t remember me, her granddaughter, who loved her with all I have.
My eyes feel with tears as I try to understand,
How did she forget me, she’s all I’ve ever had.
I turn away, I don’t want her to see me cry,
As I do the only words I can say is, God why?
I face her again with a smile on my face but with a heavy heart,
And I know this is a new journey we now must start.
As days pass go by it only gets worse,
and it feels like I’ve received an awful curse.
I still go everyday to see the woman who no longer knows my name;
And although her mind is gone, mine is still the same.
I look at her with the same love and respect, and I’ll never let that go.
Today I cherish the memories I now carry for us both,
This will never change although her mind is gone,
I’ll love her as my hero, my grandmother, and the greatest woman I’ve ever known.
