Nothing Is New
Nothing is New
By Christoper Commodore©2003
What innate thoughts to this day still remain?
Perhaps some crass opinions, nothing more.
What passion for this phase still left to entertain;
What mysteries still await for to explore?
What music has till now not been exposed;
Concealed by time’s immortal mammoth course?
What song of peace still snoozes undisclosed;
Unsung, evading wide the throbbing universe?
Are there still scenes that were not seen before?
Perhaps old spirits cowering in the savage dark;
Huge visions not so immense anymore,
That failed in time to show like Noah’s Ark.
Deep from some crevice of the giddy mind,
Emerge ridiculous tales, the plain truth to deny.
New thoughts that fail at concrete proof to find,
Life’s sobering facts upon which to rely.
No fresh uncanny find still foreign to the ear,
To churn the heart in novel ecstasy.
Strike down archaic thoughts registered near or far,
Expunge offending views shrouded in fantasy.
What deeds, what sleeping secrets now or yore,
Can shade the blazing sun or hide the sphere sublime?
Shield this our blue abode from pestilence and war,
Arrest the thumping strides of unrelenting time.
No new discoveries not yet manifest,
No dreams, no claims to up the present charge;
To redirect this terse nefarious quest,
Or help to quell this frantic chase at large.
About this poem
In 2003, I composed and intended to submit this poem for a contest, but I did not submitted it. Part of the failure to submit it was a matter of procrastination. I found it in a list of poems marked "to be continued" in a folder today and decided to add it to my list of poems on Poetry.com.
