Let Us Pray
Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)
So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
Who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame.
And sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised,
“Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”
The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken.
That is, created things; so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief.
The heavens will disappear with a roar;
The elements will be destroyed by fire.
And the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard.
So that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
