Mene Tekel

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

The ink still dripping from the words
The hand wrote on the wall
The earth’s foundations trembling
The nations start to fall

They all were made to come and pass
But Israel stands alone
They disappeared for 2000 years
And then they came back home

The end is coming quickly now
You can’t escape your death
The beer still clouding up your mind
And stinking up your breath

Wake up O sleeper, don’t move slow
You know the time has come to go
Will you be saved or will you die?
The second death is not a lie

A fiery lake of burning sulfur
With nothing left that you can offer
Naked you came and naked you’ll go
But where is what I want to know
