Bridges of Trust: Beyond Iron Barriers

"My heart was once an iron cage, sealed shut and locked away,

Too scared of pain to open up, too scared to feel each day.

Behind cold bars it sat alone, afraid to take a chance,

Afraid if love came knocking, it could not withstand the glance.

So there my heart remained in chains, a prisoner of fear,

As time marched by, the loneliness became a torment drear.

“What is this life without true love?” my soul began to cry,

“To live each day devoid of hope, of passion's flame - to die!”

My mind replied “Tis better far to keep closed off from pain,

Than throw the gates wide open and be hurt time and again.”

And so the war within raged on, a conflict fierce and grim,

My heart still locked in solitude, refusing to give in.

Until upon a fated day our eyes were drawn to meet,

And in that moment everything came to a pause, a heartbeat.

Your smile cut through iron chains, my breath caught in my throat,

Walls began to crack and crumble, cold reserve turn to hope.

Here was a soul both warm and kind, that did not judge nor fear,

A gentle hand held out to me, saying “you are welcome here.”

My heart began to realize, that it could not hide away,

From chance of pain, there also lay the promise of each day.

To feel the sorrow and the hurt, but also the delight,

Of finding someone who one trusts, and in whom to confide.

I saw in you the missing piece, that made me feel complete,

The one who saw beyond the cage, and loved me still, a treat.

So there upon that fateful day, my heart took courage wise,

To open up its iron gates and see with clearer eyes.

To let real light come flooding in, after years locked away,

To feel once more, to live each day, come what may.

I broke the chains of fear that day, tears fell down my face,

As your hand wrapped round my trembling heart, in warm embrace.

No more imprisoned by the past, too scared to let love in,

I took a leap, a daring chance, to let new life begin.

It will not be perfect, I know, there will be highs and lows,

Times when shadows come creeping, stormy winds arise and blow.

But now my heart sits not alone, it has a friend, a guide,

Someone who stays steadfast by its side.

So if the darkness falls once more, you'll take my hand again,

And show me how to walk by faith, not live in fear of when...

The end will come, as end it must, to even greatest love,

But ‘til then, we will walk together, blessings from above."
