DEPRESSION: MY CLINGY OLD FRIEND

When depression hits you heavy,
You don't feel it, you don't feel anything,
You crave a feeling, any feeling really,
Because all the good feelings are too far from us,
Then we choose pain, we crave pain,
We inflict pain on ourselves, just to feel something,
Emotional pain is always closer, the memories,
We choose to relieve our diaries because they only tell pain,
We choose the saddest lyrics because they tell our story,
We watch the darkest documentaries because darkness we know,
We choose ruthless partners because their love language we know,
We don't choose friends because our spaces are solitude,
And there, in our dark, twisted, thorny room we feel,
Feeling is a good thing, it keeps our souls in touch,
But then we become numb to the emotional pain, and the feeling is gone,
If there's no hand feeling through the darkness to find us,
If there's no voice of hope echoing in our ears to save us,
If no voice can penetrate the darkness to reach our soul,
Then we need to find another way to keep the soul connected,
That's where the physical pain comes in, and that's near the end of hope,
Physical pain is dangerous, you can't inflict for too long,
Physical is not spiritual, it's fragile, in breaks little by little,
So I hope there's an echo of hope in you ear,
I hope there's a hand feeling through the darkness to pull you out,
I hope there is a voice of hope fighting through the darkness to reach you.
