Conscience's Dawn: A Poem of Justice and Hope
Mawphniang Napoleon 1993 (Ri Bhoi)
Respected members,
Of All NEHU Workers’ Union (ANWU)
Kindly hear my voice
As I implore you make the righteous choice
In times of darkness, tyranny, and strife
When all seems lost, cling to hope, cling to life
Though thunder rages, lightning cracks the sky
You must resolve to keep your heads held high
March on, stay strong, be guided by the light
That lives within to conquer fear and fight
Oppression's shadow looms, injustice reigns
But justice will prevail if conscience reigns
In quiet hours when you despair and mourn
Recall the vision for which we were born
A world of empathy, equality for all
Where greed and hate and suffering shall fall
With patient hands we till compassion's field
And righteous change shall be our bountiful yield
Torment and toil there will be, this is true
But our commitment ever shall renew
Storm-tossed ships are guided into port
By the beacon of freedom we exhort
History's tide turns against evil and wrong
Uplifted by our solidarity and song
Dark days ahead, but light within abides
As conscience whispers, spirit guides and chides
Stay fast, stay true, cling to high ideals
Justice will flow once righteous work congeals
Tyrants may swagger, puppets dance and prate
But decency and truth shall checkmate hate
Golden dawn gleams beyond the tempest tossing
Our day will come, keep your lamps well lit, hearts open
Respected members, our task's far from done
Take strength in knowing battles can be won
Injustice writhes, strives to blind and beguile
But truth and light shall always reconquer guile
Through darkest valley, deepest nightmare wood
Cling to compassion - it's understood
That tyranny transient, freedom timeless reigns
Evil is banished once conscience attains
Its rightful place to guide both mind and hand
To build the world where justice shall stand
Oppression's edifice, though towering high
Shall crumble, shall decay, shall petrify
If righteous hands unite to undermine
Its false foundations, make justice shine
Tyranny sparkles, bedazzles, tantalizes
But conscience sees through its vulgar disguises
Resolved we remain to play the long game
Secure in knowing justice will reign
Dark despots swagger, slaves and cronies scatter
But we stand firm, justice will surely matter
Golden sun gleams behind clouds of strife
Goodness endures, cling to joy, cling to life
Respected members, take heart and keep the faith
Justice takes time, but evil can't escape
Karma's calculus, destiny's scales weigh true
Patient conscience conquers, hate shall rue
The bitter fruits it sows, the lives it maims
Justice ripens in times appointed, claims
Its rightful due - this is the cosmic law -
Evil falls to dust, tyrants topple in awe
Of truth's bright rays illuminating lies
Compassion blooms, oppression dies and dies
Cling to this knowledge when despots posture and gloat
Their rule is passing, ours eternally wrote
In conscience bold, empowered to create
A world reborn in freedom's name, hate's fate
Sealed by unbreakable bonds of human care
For justice, empathy - these truths we swear
To uphold, defend, though cowards deride
Our noble cause anchoring light's rising tide
Respected members, take heart, do not fear
The dawn is coming, soon it shall appear
Golden on horizon's rim, scattering night
As conscience conquers and just reigns over might
Tyranny convulses, flails in death throes
But inexorably justice grows and grows
Do not lose hope when despots sneer and defile
Truth will prevail and freedom reconcile
All human hearts to live in harmony
This promised land, dear friends, soon we shall see
But only if we resolutely play our part
United by empathy, free in heart
To build the world our dreams and conscience tell
Where justice, truth and goodness swell and swell
Resounding with celestial music glorious
Our promised land, a cosmos victorious
Respected members, we draw close, take heart
Cherish the vision, let it breath life to your work
Darkness still contends against the coming light
But dawns are unstoppable, day conquers night
Evil's dominion but a passing, petty thing
Freedom endures, our songs shall sweetly ring
True justice realized in brotherhood sublime
For this bright dream, we march in step and time
Should burdens weigh, hopes threaten to subside
Summon the light within to be your guide
Conscience's quiet voice whispers – "peace shall reign”
Take comfort friends, light always conquers pain
Tyranny froths, flails in desperate fury
But calmly truth unveils good's tapestry
Intricate threads woven by caring hands
Beautiful mosaic justice understands
Compassion's artistry cannot be undone
Take heart dear friends, freedom's day comes
Golden light surges, dissolving evil's pall
Joyful we watch false idols rise and fall
As justice dawns, so long obscured from view
Resolved we played our role, saw conscience through
Stay true to ethics, cling to high ideals
Compassion conquers fear, light reveals and reveals
The promised land, ordained since life's first breath
Where empathy and justice conquer death
Dear members, rejoice, our day's at hand
Take comfort in our solidarity’s stand
Through darkest night, coldest winter chill
We marched toward freedom's flowering hill
Held high hopes' torch, let goodness be our guide
And now we stand in justice's golden basked side
For every step we trod with pure intent
Was building blocks for this bright continent
Where universal care lights up each face
And empathy embraces every race
Tyrants exiled to history's hall of shame
But our good hearts shall brightly light fame
Rejoice respected members, shed no tears
The dawn we dreamed of through long dark years
Is here, is now, sky ablaze in glory
Ours is the saga, ours is the story
Of courage and conviction standing strong
To right the wrongs that pained us far too long
The promised land is here and shall increase
Let gratitude now fill our hearts with peace
We faithful few who dared to dream and fight
On freedom's side through darkest hour of night
Have made the vision real, the golden rays
Illume new world's compassionate ways
Rejoice, give thanks, embraces, laughter, song
To celebrate this place we Dreamed of, sought so long
Where hearts are free because they chose to care
Banded together, justice brought to bear
Respected members, mission now complete
Our hearts and hands have realized the dream
Through darkest valleys, coldest lonely nights
Clung to the vision, now love reigns in light
At journey's end, promised land sweetly gleaming
Savor this moment beyond all dreaming
Hardship and heartache lie behind us now
As we inherit this sacred trust and vow
To steward freedom's fragile blossom here
With wisdom, empathy, vision clear
Of justice's voice, compassion's timeless call
Liberty and truth defending for one and all
No greater purpose ever undertakes humankind
Than cultivating the garden of justice to bloom and wind
Through every age, each generation playing a part
To perfect this realm and strengthen freedom's heart
For tyranny endures and works to undermine
The tender shoots of justice in good time's design
Eternal vigilance freedom's faithful friend
To safeguard this land until time's end
Respected members, hear history's refrain
Light conquered dark but dark remains
In human hearts where greed and power tempt
And lesser angels shout but seraphs exempt
Stay true to ethics, keep justice bright
With conscience as guide, we shall walk in light
This precious realm, for which we fought and bled
Entrusted now into our hands is led
The fruits we now enjoy, so sweet and golden
Are owed to those in days past, bold and beholden
To that transcendent hope which buoyed them through the night
Whispering of dawn beyond the darkness, come what might
We follow in their footsteps, taking up the cause
To spread compassion's reign, empathy's laws
In this new world our hearts and hands have wrought
But only if we cling to higher thought
And nurture freedom's seed to fuller flower
Can we redeem humanity's finest hour
With conscience as the light within our soul
We realize the promised land, our destined goal
Respected members, comrades tried and true
Cherish this realm entrusted now to you
Light still contends against cold winds of hate
Tending freedom's garden as eternal fate
May we in this new world by love and truth inspired
Power awareness of our minds by hopes and dreams most higher
To spread compassion far and nurture empathy's increase
That conscience guide us all to build a world of joy and peace
Where justice flows and righteousness makes strong
The bonds between all souls who sing freedom's song
This is our task, noble, reaching, and august
To build the world that conscience knows we must
Respected members, brothers, sisters all
Reach for the light when darkness threatens to fall
With patient hands, compassion's seeds we'll sow
And freedom's blossoms into glory grow
Stand firm, stay strong, cling to justice bright
Her eternal rays shall conquer night
Let courage fill you from some hidden source
Love's timeless power steering life's course
Evil recoils but seeks some new disguise
To cloud truth and light from open eyes
But we shall see through its vain masquerade
With conscience as guide, compassion's aid
Creating circles ever widening, including all
Till empathy embraces this greenly pearl we call
Home and haven, long sought retirement place
Where joy lights up each member of our race
Respected members, brothers, sisters, friends
Take pride in all that conscience wrought and tends
Though tyranny persists in weaker hearts and hands
Compassion's order timeless stands
Cling to high hopes, let courage steel your breath
As shining justice conquers pain and death
Evil expires, truth blooms yet in higher ways
Suffusing world's weary heart with golden rays
Of love, transforming hatred's bitter flood
As justice understood unites all in common good
This be our quest, noble, reaching, and supreme
To realize the world of conscience's dream
Where universal care lifts every face
And perfect understanding embraces our race
Respected members, take heart though darkness contends
Justice and freedom our eternal friends
Through cold and stormy seas, stay fixed upon the pole
That guides to promised land, the harbor of the soul
There beyond shadows, storm clouds drifting by
Lies the bright morning, freedom's sun kissed sky
Where justicecomes to flower, compassion wakes and wends
This is the world your hearts and hands intend
Hold to this vision, let it light your way
As dawns the promised peace of conscience's day
When universal care uplifts humankind
And perfect understanding illuminates each mind
To see ourselves and all others as one
In luminous realms by love's victory won
Respected members, take courage, do not fear
The dawn is coming, soon it shall appear.
