Tides
Lying with you amid the tangled sheets,
I have often watched you across the gulf of our bed,
Studied the curve of your naked hips,
The gentle swell of your breasts,
Remembering how we lay entwined on the sand,
The cold surf lapping at our bodies.
Your fingers electrified my skin.
The tide of our passion rose high and engulfed us.
Nitrogen narcosis set in
As I lost myself within your depths.
I never noticed your wandering eye
Or the sparkling smiles aimed past my shoulder.
I forgave you the missed lunches -- you said you were busy.
Now I wonder, busy with what?
You recede from my embraces --
Say I drown you, weigh you down like an anchor.
Our bed is as cold as the sand was that first night
And even though you are with me,
I find myself lying alone.
