Losing Ground

Why did anxiety increase
Its strength when it returned
And when it grows, I have no peace;
My hope and plans are burned!

Was I the one who flipped the switch
Or pushed the button in,
That caused my armor to unhitch
And let the bully in?

Did I somehow the lever throw
Or did I press the key
That caused anxiety to grow
And chip away at me?

I've lost some ground.  My anxious thoughts
Attack and do not care
About the hidden pain it brought
Or how much I can bear.
