Sober

Once upon a time, in the depths of despair,
Lived a soul lost and broken, with no one to care,
A life consumed by cocaine and heroin's grip,
Left homeless and broke, on a neverending trip.

He battled demons daily, with nowhere to turn,
The ones he once fought for, now nowhere to be seen,
No saving grace in sight, just darkness and pain,
But within that darkness, a flicker remained.

With his last ounce of hope, he held on tight,
For he knew deep inside, he alone could make it right,
Battered and bruised by the battles he'd fought,
He mustered the strength for one final, desperate thought.

Memories ran wild, like hurricanes in his mind,
A tumultuous storm he could no longer bind,
Grinding his teeth, clinging to fragments of life,
He held onto himself, in midst of chaos and strife.

But then, a glimmer of revelation appeared,
A noose from the ceiling, a symbol he feared,
In that moment of darkness, he found a spark,
A choice to keep fighting or succumb to the dark.

With the memories as fuel, he found the will to persist,
To confront his demons head-on and cease to resist,
He sought solace within, for it was his only way,
To break the chains of addiction and find a brighter day.

Piece by piece, he rebuilt what was lost,
Though the journey was treacherous, he paid the cost,
He learned to rely on himself, find strength in his core,
To rise from the ashes and begin to restore.

The ones he loved may have faded away,
But a newfound love for himself, he embraced each day,
Living with purpose, leaving behind the past,
He discovered a power within, destined to last.

Through the darkness he conquered, a light now shines bright,
A testament of resilience, a beacon of might,
His story of redemption, a source of inspiration,
To those whose hope falters, causing devastation.

For in the depths of despair, miracles can unfold,
When one finds the courage to break the grip they hold,
No longer bound by substances that once tore him apart,
He emerged, a phoenix rising, with a renewed start.
