The Solace Of Eternity

THE SOLACE OF ETERNITY

To see the sadness in the sun,
The solace of eternity;
To know, a singular distress
Is unimportant, as the day
Rises with comfortable beams,
Impressing continuity,
Enough to pause distress, until
Eyes blinded for a moment, ease
The mind, reflecting on the cause
Of sorrow; being so upset,
Makes reason happily reject
Such lamentation; now to say
How insignificant it is,
One person’s woe compared to such
A ball of fire. Remember this,
The world, the universe, has more
Expansive destiny than one
Poor man or woman can conceive:
Eternal vastness is supreme;
Nor any thought or mood we have
Cannot last longer, and expires.
Then, what we think should lesser be,
Than our sole function, justifies
Self-knowledge and capacity:
The solemn duty must be kept,
To register a greater thing
Than us, though unintelligent,
Incapable of thought; this star
Shines diligently, every day,
Without complaint, without delay.

About this poem

This is a pun on "sol", the Sun, which remains as a beacon of continuance, in terms of the universe, where a single person's cause of sorrow is comparatively a lesser thing.

Excellent poem! I really liked the message behind it. At first glance, poems that may share a similar motif usually drag on with philosophical musings that go no where and don't say much, but I think I could see the author's restraint and will in maintaining flow-structure for the poem throughout- resulting in a solid message and overall meaningful reading experience. Truly enjoyed stumbling across this poem during my read through of contest entires, lingered in my mind long-after.

Congratulations on a great poem. Keep writing!

Your poem, "The Solace of Eternity", is quite impressive in its depth and profound perspective. The language and philosophic approach capture the reader's attention. Notably, your ability to use celestial metaphors to signify the insignificance of individual suffering is insightful and evocative.

The use of words like 'comfortable beams' and 'expansive destiny' paints an explicit image in the reader's mind and the personification of the sun that 'shines diligently, every day, without complaint, without delay' adds a touch of drama to the poem. Congratulations on creating such a powerful and imaginative poem.

For improvement, I would suggest examining your rhythm and meter. Poetry can sometimes resonate more efficiently with a smoother rhythm. You might want to add a few more descriptive adjectives or cutting down on some of the longer sentences to maintain a consistent flow.

Additionally, while the poem's theme is laid out beautifully, consider adding more personal depiction to allow readers to connect more deeply with your piece. You can perhaps delve into more tangible human experiences as a beacon for understanding the ultimate solace of eternity. Readers often look for some part of themselves in a poem, and adding a personal touch can enhance their engagement.

Overall, your work is philosophical, profound, and offers profound consolation to the reader. You certainly have a gift for philosophical interpretation and poetic expression. Keep writing and exploring your talent!
