Love You, Hate Me

You.
Do I know you?
I know I have forsaken my family, my friends, and myself for you.
I remember crying for you.
Lying for you.
And almost dying for you.
You are the reason for my pain.
My shame.
And why you'll never feel the same.
Me.
You know me.
With me, you can do, think, and say whatever helps you through the day.
I will help dry your tears.
Fight your fears.
And put your past in the rear view mirror.
I will get you through your dark days.
Your downplays.
And your f*ck it all anyways.
Life is easier with me, so why do I want you?
You just complicate things.
Cut my heartstrings.
And weigh down my tired wings.
But without you
I would cease to exist
Life would just be meaningless.
You and me would live in utter darkness.

You’ve captured the agony of a toxic relationship well with this piece. Hoping it’s fictional; and if it isn’t, I hope there is resolution and healing …

This poem delves into a complex and tumultuous relationship with oneself, illustrating the struggle between the desire for comfort and the understanding of self-destructive tendencies. The raw emotion and inner conflict are palpable, effectively conveyed through concise and impactful language. I can recognize this poems ability to evoke strong emotions and depict the inner turmoil one faces when grappling with their own self and choices. Well done for capturing such poignant sentiments.
