For you my co-Pilot Lunalilo

Regardless of the time of day or night I fly
I’ll always miss my co-pilot.

This is the time, the time of my departure,
Startup the engines.

Remove the chocks now
Let me test if the rudder still works.

Taxi onto the runway right on the centerline
And let’s fly into the vast sky.

We have landed at our destination
Somewhere in Kahiki.

I’ve experienced coldness aloft on the Airbus A330’s
The radar in the nosecone of my plane is signaling an oncoming storm.

I don’t give any special attention to this relationship you and I have.

Our noses softly met
And we kissed at the Airport.

Disconnect the jetway now
And attach the tow bar to the tug so we can push.

Disconnect the tow bar and the bypass pin and as soon as the engines starts up we shall taxi to the runway.

As we board our aircraft the sound of the APU greets us.

When we reach our cruising altitude we shall eat and drink and watch some movies or listen to music on the in-flight entertainment system if you become bored just hiamoe.

Getting turbulent up here! I think I’m gonna Hurl!
Can you pass me the barf bag just in case?

Did you see the plane bank as it turns? It seems so graceful like a bird flying over the open ocean.

Set the flaps to 15 degrees so we can land. And trim the trim tabs to the landing position.

Deploy the landing gear now and then we touch down on the runway and we have finally landed.

We exit the runway and enter the taxiway and then we shall taxi to our gate.

The plane taxis to the gate the nose wheel is placed perfectly on the line. Then the jetway connects to our plane. The Captain turns off the fasten seatbelt sign and we can exit the plane.

Doors for arrival the flight attendants say as they disarm the doors so we can exit.

This tells the love for my co-pilot
My greatest love King William Charles Lunalilo is his name.

About this poem

This poem I wrote to The love of my life The 6th King of Hawaiʻi William Charles Lunalilo. We both love poetry and for our 6th anniversary together I composed this poem in his honor after Merrie Monarch The prestigious hula festival in The world a.k.a The “superbowl of hula” in 2022 I worked on this poem and gave it to him and my University to share The love I have for him. Last year for The men’s Kahiko (ancient hula) Division The hālau Kawailiula under The direction of legendary kumu hula Chinky māhoe did The song which inspired this poem and how me and that song is how me and Lunalilo started our relationship in The first place this song is losely based off The song about Lunalilo called “No ke ano ahiahi”. But my poem has an avaition twist to it. Instead of The traditional nautical terms in The original song. The song “no ke ano ahiahi” is about him travelling to America but he did not go to America The kaona or hidden Meaning of it is that he didn’t go to America and didn’t get

Jurielle Cassandra Angel P. Martinez-Parel

Aloha Mai Kākou, My name is Jurielle Cassandra Angel P. Martinez-Parel. I loved poetry since I was a kid and I’ve enterd some poetry contests since I was a kid one of which was named in honor of one of The people I admire The Martin Luther King Jr peace poetry contest. After I enterd middle School I kind of lost intrest in poetry and took a break from it for like 2 years. Until I heard of The love of my life The sixth King of Hawaiʻi King William Charles Lunalilo he helped me spark my intrest in poetry again as he loved poetry as much as I do and encouraged me again to go into poetry contests again such as this one which I’ve heard an ad on it on a website. I hope you all enjoy The poem I wrote for him and feel The love that we share. more…
